Connor and I just finished reading The Rookie Bookie together, and it was an excellent book for little boys. I would say ages 7 or 8 to 12 or 13. It had all sorts of great things going for it: football, fantasy football, gambling, starting at a new school, math, statistics, finances, getting in trouble, the prisoner's dilemma, making real friends, etc.
Oh, and the main character's best friend is actually a really smart girl who likes football, so if you have one of those around the house, she might like this book, too.
