Hotel del Coronado

First of all, let me just say how much I love staying at a hotel where you can walk right out the doors and onto the beach.  The Hotel del Coronado was especially beautiful, and the entire island was gorgeous.  On our first morning, after breakfast (room service! I love that, too), we rented a family bike and went for a ride on the island.

Connor and Lex sat in the back, and they didn't have to pedal.  Apparently their legs weren't long enough to reach the pedals on some of the other bikes.  Slackers.

Kevin and I sat up front and did all the work.  Pedaling and steering and all that.

We rode all the way to the naval base that's on the island.  There is an air strip there, and on Monday, which was Memorial Day, we got to see a bunch of Blue Angels landing there.  Five or six of them flew right over our heads while we were surfing in the ocean.

There were a ton of these trees with these huge purple blooms all over them, and I love them.

We played in the sand and we played in the waves.

The first day, we rented some body boards, and the kids loved it.  LOVED it.  They are perfect little surfer dudes.

In fact, they loved it so much that the next morning, we did it again.  But the second time we rented four boards and wet suits, since it was pretty chilly.  I wish I had a photo of all of us in our wet suits, but we had left all our phones and cameras in the hotel room so that they would stay dry.  The boys looked good.

Everyone says that the weather is always perfect in San Diego.  Sunny and 70 degrees.  I don't know if I agree with that.  I like my weather to be about 15 or 20 degrees warmer.  Especially on the beach.

Shortly after this photo was taken, I bought a sweatshirt at one of the hotel gift shops.

Lex picked out this sweatshirt that says "A shark ate my homework."  He thinks it's hilarious.  Because it is.

A professional sand castle builder builds a castle in front of the hotel just about every weekend, and this is the one he constructed for Memorial Day.  It's amazing.
