Blue and Gold Banquet

Today was a very special day for Lex's Cub Scout Pack.  The entire Blue and Gold Banquet had a GAMES theme.

There was also the cake baking competition.  Lex won in the Smallest Cake category.  The banquet ended with everyone tasting all the cakes and having way too much sugar.

In which Lex bakes a cake

Lex is going to be entering a cake into his Cub Scout Pack's cake competition tomorrow, so today he had to bake and decorate the cake.  The theme for the competition is "GAMES."

I'm very proud of Lex for baking and decorating the cake entirely on his own.

A Day in the Homeschool Life

Today I shall simply walk you through our day.

This is a normal day in that these are the kinds of things that we do all the time.  Our days aren't really normal, though, because we do them however we want everyday.  So, no two days look exactly alike, but all the days are pretty much exactly alike.  This might only make sense if you are a homeschooler.

Here goes nothing.

9:30 AM - Reading the Boy Scout Handbook

A Day of School at Home

10:00 AM - Eating Pancakes and Reading

10:30 AM - Cooking Lessons

Around 11:00 AM - Time to Study!

It's NOON and we are still working

12:30 PM - Still studying, but in all the different places

After a late lunch we are working on Latin, math and writing today.

Then, the final step is piano practice.

This guy is done with school for the day.

One down, one to go.

Lex is also working on writing, math and Latin after lunch today.

Today is actually a special day, because Lex has just now finished his math book and is moving from Life of Fred: Kidneys to Life of Fred: Liver.

And then, Lex's final step of the day is also piano practice:

4:00 PM - Both the kiddos are done for the day.

Some days we start earlier or later and some days we end earlier or later.  Some days one works while the other plays and some days they work together.  Today was a good mix of everything, which is how most days usually are.

The End.  Happy Schooling!

Other People's Photos

Over Labor Day weekend, Connor went on a camping trip with his new Boy Scouts group (den?) (pack?) (club?).  Anyway, they went to Cumberland Island.  He was exhausted when he got back (just in time for the first day of school), but he had many wonderful stories to tell us about the fun that he had.  They went took a ferry boat out to Cumberland Island, hiked and hiked and hiked, saw some wild horses and ruins.  He had a really great time.

While he was away, other people sent me photos, which made me happy.

Maybe someday the rest of us will get a chance to take a trip to this magical wilderness.

Connor is a Boy Scout

Connor has joined a Boy Scout troop.  Tonight was his first meeting in uniform.

He looks great in his uniform.

Do you remember when Connor was a cub scout?  He did an entire year of scouting when we lived in Houston and he was in the first grade.  We never found a good troop to join when we were in Amarillo, but there is a nice troop close to us now that we live in Atlanta.
