Weekend Recap

Today is MLK day. For some people, today is still the weekend. For us, I guess it's just a regular Monday, because Kevin had to go to work.

But, even though our weekend was only two days long, it was plenty of fun!

We had a nice playdate with Ethan and Noah on Friday night. It was funny, Connor didn't seem to want to play with the babies at first. I guess it kind of makes sense, as Ethan and Noah are technically closer in age to Lex...but he eventually came around. We brought out all the Little People.

We ordered Domino's pizza. We used the online pizza tracker again. Love that service.

Saturday we went to the Central Ohio Golf Show. Kevin bought me a new pair of Adidas golf shoes. He was making good on a bet that he lost two summers ago when I beat him at a round of golf up in Michigan. I think I was the one keeping score, if that matters.

We ate dinner at the Ohio Deli. It was featured on an episode of Man v. Food because of their Dagwood sandwich. Kevin and my Dad split a Dagwood, and I don't think either finished their half. I got a hot Italian sub. It was yummy, but it was so greasy that the bottom crust of bread was squishy. Yuck.

Sunday, we went to Easton. That means that in a seven day period, I went shopping at four malls in Columbus: Tuttle on Monday, Polaris on Wednesday, Eastland on Thursday and Easton on Sunday. Oddly enough, things are not the same price at the same store at each mall. Polaris is the most expensive. Easton and Tuttle have the best selection and best nursing facilities. You can thank me for all my research by sending donations to make up for all the money I spent on my spree. (Not really. I didn't buy much.)


I did buy new plates for us. We donated all our old, mis-matched china to my little brother. He's in college.

Also while at Easton, we had some time to kill while Kevin was chatting up the Golf Tec guy about lessons, so I decided to take Connor to Color Your World, a paint your own pottery kind of place. He did a lovely job painting a little mug. We can go back to pick it up next weekend. (Watch for photos then.) I toyed with the idea of going to Build-a-Bear instead, but Connor had actually asked me to paint earlier in the day, and he hadn't gotten a chance to yet. I still want to take him to Build-a-Bear sometime soon. I have been waiting for him to be old enough to actually enjoy the experience since I was first pregnant with him.

I am planning on ordering curtains for the dining room as soon as Kevin gives me the go-ahead. I've finally decided what I want in there. I just gotta run it past him before I order them. How can he not love them, though? I've been thinking about what to do in that room since we bought the house - it was not easy to come up with the perfect thing. Which I now have.

Surprise: Part II

I really wanted to have everything all set up and in place by the time that Kevin got home, so that he wouldn't have to lift a finger, and could just enjoy the beauty of his surprise.

But it turns out that isn't how it happened.

First of all, I've never used a drill before. I figured it out as best I could, but then I ran into a second problem. The windows in our house are all surrounded by a metal plate under the drywall! How the heck was I supposed to drill through that?! I tried, and the drill skipped, and I gouged the drywall...so I figured I should stop trying before I broke a window or ruined the walls or knocked the house down.

So, Kevin ended up installing the curtain rods himself. But, he was a good sport about it, and didn't really complain about the fact that I had added to his already very long to-do list.

Total Disappointment

I want Alliums in my garden this summer. Specifically, I want these Globemaster Alliums.


But apparently they are a fall-planted bulb. So I can't seem to get my dirty little hands on any. I am thisclose to calling every nursery and greenhouse in town to see if I can bribe my way into about a dozen of these plants.

If I must wait until September to plant them, that means that I won't get to enjoy looking at them until next summer, and that is simply unacceptable.


Also, I want to finally do the curtains on the first floor of the house. I've found some that I like in a catalog, but they are really expensive. So, I thought that I would go out and buy fabric and make my own, just like the ones in the catalog. A quick trip to JoAnn Fabrics revealed nothing but fabric that I hated, so I thought I would go to Sarafina. The Serafina in Columbus is closed! Where else can I buy fabric in Columbus?

Well, it's Monday, and I'm still Pregnant!

Even though I'm not working anymore, I still can't get into the habit of getting on the computer at home on the weekends. It just seems wrong to me for some reason.

But, it's Monday, so I'm back, and that's only because I'm still at home. There is no baby yet. I'm starting to feel like the hoopla was all for nothing, but of course that's just stupid, he's still in there, kicking and punching away at my ribcage, and he has G.O.T. to come out sometime. No one ever spent their entire life in their mother's womb, well, at least not literally. Maybe figuratively speaking. Ha! (And no, I don't actually have anyone in mind at the moment, although it seems like I should. I just don't know anyone like that.)

Kevin fixed his drill on Saturday, so he hung up the curtains that I made in the baby's room. I went up there to take a picture of them this morning for you, and the light bulb is burned out. Since I'm not in the mood to climb up on a step ladder to change the bulb, I took a small lamp in there to take some pictures, and the lighting isn't great. But, for the sake of time, and since *hopefully* I'll be more interested in posting baby pictures soon, I decided to post the pictures anyways.

I am really proud of these curtains. They are reversible, with the opposite colors on the other side. They are one of the first projects that I have made where everything turned out exactly how I wanted them to, with no hidden mistakes or anything.

And just for fun, here is a shot of the twin bedding I bought to make the room more kid-friendly. I think it's cute.


Then, here is a shot of all of the baby's stuffed animals. He has so many already, and I didn't buy a single one of those, because I was forewarned that everyone would buy them for us! They are super cute, but I'm not sure what we are going to do with them all yet, which is why they are all arranged on the floor next to the bed. Kevin has started telling his family and friends not to buy us any more "puppets," because that's what he calls them. I think it might be a Northern Ohio thing...or maybe just a Kevin thing, but I think calling them "puppets" or "puppet animals" is both adorable and funny.

These curtains are hanging in the small room in our master bath that houses our toilet and shower. I decided not to make them full length since the room is smallish.

P.S. I'm trying to get Kevin to paint this room the same tan color that we have painted the hallways and closets between the master bedroom and master bath, but he just doesn't seem *that* excited about doing it.

I promised that I would post pictures of the curtains that I made as soon as I remembered to take them, and I took the pictures last night, so here they are.

These are the curtains that are hanging over the garden tub in the master bath.

Thirteen Months

Today Kevin and I have been married for 13 months!

On this day, one year ago, Kevin and I were busy at our first appointment with a mortgage broker. I remember that he was really late to the appointment, and when we got home afterwards, I found out why. He had bought flowers on his way home from work, and he dropped them off at home, arranging them in a beautiful vase for me, before he came to meet me at the mortgage place as a present for our 1 month anniversary. He's so sweet!

Last night I finished up one of the two curtain panels for the window over our garden tub in the master bath. I need to stop at the store tonight to buy more white fabric for the lining of the second panel, since I've run out. The white fabric I bought for the lining of the curtains was a lot smaller in width than the decorator fabric (duh!) that I'm using, so of course I ran out of it. I'm not too upset, though, since it should be an easy trip to the store. Kevin hung the curtain rod for the other window last night, and we hung up the valance that I made for the window in the little room with our shower. It looks really nice, and I am pleased with my success thus far! I'll take pictures of both windows once the curtains are hung, and I'll post them.

Kevin and I are going to a wedding this weekend, and I'm starting to get really excited about it. Both the bride and the groom are in the Air Force, so it is going to be a military wedding. The invitation stated that anyone who wanted to could wear their uniforms, so I assume that a lot of their military friends will be there, too. It should be really interesting. Since I'm not in the military, I think I'm going to wear a yellow dress. The wedding is at 6:00 PM, and the only thing more formal than a 6:00 wedding is an 8:00 wedding. I think my dress is formal enough, though, without being too formal. I hope I'm right.

Little trivial things that make up my life

I planted my green beans outside, finally, and they look like they are doing well. I've got the strawberry plants back in the little windowsill greenhouse, as they are still really small.

When Kevin and I seam-sealed the tent, he ran his hands through his hair, and he got seam sealer all through it, so I had to comb it out on Sunday morning before church. That was kinda funny.

I started to make curtains this weekend, and I've got the set for the window in our bathroom next to the shower done already. It was easier than I expected it to be, and they look nice. I'm going to do the curtains for the window next to the tub in the very near future. I won't commit to doing them tonight, but maybe I will.

My family came over for a BBQ on Sunday after church and we played some cornhole. It was a good time. They complained again about how far away we moved from Worthington. They act like we moved to another state! It was the first time they had driven the 30 minutes to our house in months, too!

I'm having another BBQ for my family at the end of July. We planned it yesterday, and my Uncle and his family will be driving in for it. They are coming from 3 and a half hours away, though, so my family will brave the 30 minute trip to come and see them at our house, too. It should be fun.

Kevin and I recently watched the movies Saw and Saw II. I liked the second one better, and when I think back upon it, I am surprised at how much more it is than a simple horror movie. There was actually some thought put into the plot and themes.

I guess the momma cat must be in the process of weaning the kittens, because she has moved them next door, where the people feed her, probably so that the kittens can eat regular food, too. They are about that age, now. I was a little bit sad when I came outside and they were gone, but I was glad to get a glimpse of them through the fence. Plus, my parents were over, so that was distracting.

I've been collecting pictures lately, and I've got a nice set to put together some scrapbook pages, so hopefully I'll be able to get together with Sara (my scrapbooking buddy) sometime soon and do that.

The Birth of Venus and Striped Curtains

I love this painting. I have it hanging in our bedroom over our garden tub. I couldn't imagine a more appropriate place for it in our house, and now our tub would seem naked without it.

I am thinking, however, of having it reframed with a mat to match the new curtains that I am going to be making for that room.

On Saturday, Kevin and I were driving around when we passed a man holding a sign saying that Hancock Fabrics was going out of business. So, we headed over and bought a bolt of beautiful striped decorator fabric that matches just about every room in our house, and I am going to use it to make curtains for the master bathroom and possibly even the family room and kitchen bay window, or the dining room bay window. I'm not sure how far the fabric will go, or when I will get tired of seeing it. So, I shall start with the bathroom and go from there. :)

But, I won't start (probably) until after I finish the blanket. I am getting closer to being done all the time, and I have some extra time to work on it next Saturday, since the mother-daughter banquet that I was planning on going to with my mom has been rescheduled.

More Curtains!

Anyways, I bought two pairs of these tie-up shades, and I hung them in our rec room in the basement, and they really look nice down there. During the day, when the sun hits them just right, the entire basement has a nice reddish glow to it, and I really like it.

Curtains!

I have been getting back into the mood to start working on home improvement projects again, after taking a break from it this winter. I bought the set of curtains pictured above, and we hung them in our master bedroom. They look beautiful, and they really do a great job of blocking the little bit of light that gets through our blinds at night, so the room is super dark while we are sleeping, which is great.

Now I am planning to buy some curtains for our master bath. I have already picked them out at Bed, Bath & Beyond, and I might take care of it this weekend or next.

I'll get some pictures of the actual curtains as they hang in our house online after that!

Weekend Update

This past weekend, I:

4. Bought sports bras (for golf and tennis, and for the first time ever!)

5. Called Sara on the phone and mistakenly talked to her mom for forever before discovering mistake

8. Watched Just Like Heaven

9. Went to church

10. Ate dinner with my family (at Red Lobster)

11. Played tennis (my brother Kevin hit me with the ball twice!)

12. Bought a dress

13. Ordered curtains

14. Cleaned the house and did laundry

15. Got hit in the face accidentally by my brother Kevin at my parents' house because he is clumsy

16. Ate a cookie-dough blizzard treat from Dairy Queen in order to make my head feel better

It seemed like it was the longest weekend in the history of the world, but it was really good.

And I don't have a black eye from where my brother accidentally hit me with his shoulder, but my cheek is a nice purple-red color. It could almost look like a sunburn, just on the one side...
