 This is the next book we read.  It's about Mother Teresa.

Let's go to Mars!

Today's edition of Summer camp at home is brought to you by Google, 4-H, and the Old Time Candy Company.

Because when you go on a long trip, you need to buy lots of candy.  I thought a trip to space would be best with Nerds, Pop Rocks, and Air Heads.

So, I ordered all of these things:

And today we enjoyed them all.  First we played a game to see where we all landed on Mars.  I crashed more than anyone else.  Then, we built a Mars rover:

Finally, we played a game to grow food on Mars.  Our colonies were a success!

The End is Near

I can always tell that the end of summer is approaching when we finish our Sassafras Science book.  We finished studying Geology today.

(We also finished reading Sweet & Sour Tales from China.)

I really like this method of book distribution.

It's so easy to buy the books on iTunes and put them on the iPads for the kids.

We read The Cat Who Went to Heaven, and then we read Who Was Gandhi?

The Quarantine Edition of the Eastern Hemisphere Summer Camp at home continues!

Paper Cranes

As part of our Eastern Hemisphere Summer Camp at Home (2020 Quarantine Edition), we read Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes.  Then, we tried to make some origami cranes ourselves.  

 

Maybe we should go ahead and start folding 1,000 paper cranes during the pandemic.

I mean, a wish for health and long life seems very appropriate. 

I've made two so far.

Connor and Lex each made one.

Sorcerer & Stones

Tonight we played a new game based on Chinese legends.  I bought it as a part of the summer camp homeschool thing that we do.  It's a great game.  We laughed and laughed and I'm looking forward to playing it again soon.

I ordered this as a kickstarter, and I am so glad I did. 

It's interesting and fun to play with.

Summer Camp At Home - Friday Edition

Today we started learning about pandemics.  The first one we are learning about is the Black Death.

We made some plague masks.

The birdful shape of the plague mask led me to grab my Kurzgesagt coloring book and color this awesome bird.

Connor colored the layers of the earth in his Sassafras SciDat Log.

He beat me at chess, and then he beat me at checkers.  

I wanted to play some Chinese checkers, but he didn't want to lose.

This week, we also read some of the Tales from Japan, and I Survived the Japanese Tsunami, 2011.

Redstone Academy - End of School/Getting Ready for Summer

The end of the school year is near.

Connor has finished 7th grade humanities.

Lex has finished 6th grade Geography.

We have also finished Latin and Writing & Rhetoric for this year.

Since we don't have any other plans for this summer, we are going to do our usual Summer Sassafras Science Adventure, and we are adding a fantastic middle school Eastern Hemisphere Adventure.

I've ordered (and received) most of the materials for our Summer Camp (At Home).

We are going to be reading most of the books on the iPad.

It will be the first time we are going to be using so many digital books for learning.

We'll see how it goes, and then make a decision on the novels we need for next year.

Maybe digital books are the future, or maybe we need to stick to paper.
