Today, we went with a friend to the library for their Friends of the Library book sale.
And we bought books. All the books. (Actually, not even close to all of the books. They had many mountains of books left after we left. We wanted to leave some books for other people to buy.)
Lex bought all the Diary of the Wimpy Kid books that he found.
Connor picked out all of the Goosebumps that were available.
The rest is a collection of things that seemed interesting to two little boys.
Lex has now finished all of the Elementary and Intermediate series books in the Life of Fred math curriculum.
Since he finished the books a little earlier than expected, we are going to take a short little break from Fred before we start the middle school books.
I went out and bought some fun math curriculum for extra practice before we start Life of Fred: Fractions.
This is the first book. It's a story book that does a really good job with number sense and how numbers are related to each other. Plus there is a decoder magnifying glass. So that's fun.
These little work books are full of themed multiplication and division problems for extra practice.
These should be fun. I'm looking forward to playing Division War.
When I first heard about the illustrated editions of the Harry Potter books, I knew that I wanted them. So when the first book was first released, I bought it for Connor and Lex, in the hopes that they would also fall in love with Harry Potter.
That was ages ago. But, patience is a virtue. Now the kids are totally obsessed with all things Harry Potter and getting into the books.
Connor decided to read the illustrated version:
Once he finished the first book, instead of reading the regular versions, he asked if we could get more of the illustrated versions. It turns out that there are only two more illustrated versions in existence. So, we went to Barnes & Nobel and picked up two new copies of The Chamber of Secrets and The Prisoner of Azkaban.
And once Connor finishes these, he will have to read the regular versions of the books, because the illustrated version of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire won't be released until 2019.
It turns out that having two copies of these books was handy, though, so that Connor and Lex could read at the same time.
I have already posted about The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Jurassic Park. So, this is about the rest of the fun stuff we did during our two days at Universal in Orlando. We conquered those parks!
Lex and I even rode the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which is a major roller coaster! That kid really likes roller coasters. He even wanted to ride it after he saw the video of Kevin Hart riding it in the Jimmy Fallon Race Through New York ride. (Which was an excellent ride, by the way.)
Lex wanted to ride the Hulk roller coaster too, but even though he was technically exactly tall enough, he didn't fit the head restraint system quite yet. So, he has to look forward to growing a few more inches and then going back again.

Instead, I took him on the Dr. Doom's Fearfall ride. He loved it.

We at dinner at an incredible restaurant called Mythos.
I love all things Greek & Roman Mythology, and this place was amazing.

After dinner, we did Poseidon's Fury.
I even liked the ruins outside.
It was quite the spectacle.
I don't have any photos of the Skull Island: Reign of Kong ride, but it was really something. The waiting areas for the ride were some of the scariest things in the park. It was so scary, in fact, that many people with children abandoned the ride halfway through the waiting. Connor also wanted to head back, but he stuck it out, and it turned out that the ride itself wasn't nearly as scary as the waiting rooms. Go figure.
We had a wonderful time. Next time, Lex will be big enough for the Hulk, he hopes. And Connor is hoping for a trip back so that we can do the Volcano Bay water park. He likes water slides so much more than roller coasters.
I guess there is nothing left to do now except make plans to go again, and post a link to the time that we visited Universal Studios in Hollywood.

Lex and Connor both started out reading these Capital Mysteries books, but after about 8 or 10 of them, Connor got bored, because each book is pretty much the same. The two main characters discover some troublesome plot in the nation's capital, and then after some close calls, they solve it and there is a happy ending. Lex still loves them, and he has read them all. Some of them he has read a few times.
This week at Redstone Academy, we are studying the circulatory system in anatomy.

Connor got so involved in the comedy of his drawing that he forgot that he was supposed to be labeling the items from his vocabulary list in Latin. The fat drunk knight is my favorite.

This week at Redstone Academy, Lex wanted to read all the Curious George books that he could find at the library. Both the boys are somewhat obsessed with the Guinness Book of World Records.
Also, Connor finished reading The Hunger Games and is now working on Catching Fire. He wants to watch the movies once he is done with the books. Lex has also decided to read the books. He's starting The Hunger Games now, but I don't think he likes it as much as Captain Underpants, because he keeps going back to those books instead.
