Shopping for new dishes

Our Formal China Pattern - Old County Roses by Royal Albert

Kevin and I have two sets of dishes, one is our formal china, and the other is for everyday use. I bought the everyday dishes my freshman year of college, and it was a box set by Gibson. They have flowers, strawberries and butterflies all around the edges. They are pretty, but we are going to need to replace them soon, because a number of the dinner plates have been laid to rest recently. Only one of them actually broke from being dropped; the rest of them were set on fire, and the ceramic glaze (or whatever it is) that protects the china has been ruined, so the dishes don't seem safe to eat off of any more.

(How did they get set on fire? Well, it involved my husband, bacon and the microwave. So, when we buy new plates, I will be buying special microwave plates for making bacon.)

Since we still have a good number of plates (just not enough), I have been playing with the idea of making my new plate buying into a treasure hunts of sorts. I really like all of the blue patterned china from Spode, and I run across them at various discount shops all the time.

Instead of just picking one set, I think I might like to buy all the different ones that I think are pretty, and have a blue and white themed assortment of Spode plates.

Does this seem like a reasonable idea to you?
