Kevin and I are going to have a vegetable garden this summer. On Saturday, I spent some time clearing the first weeds and dead plants from our flower beds. Then, we did a little planning, and we have decided to move a few flowering plants that I like into a single flower bed, and then use the other two side beds for our vegetable garden.
One of the things that I am going to be moving is my hydrangea, which is in a spot that is entirely too sunny for the plant. It only had one bloom on it last year! Hopefully, this year it will do better, after I move it.
On Saturday evening, we started some seeds for various vegetables. We planted eggplant, tomato, green peppers, cucumber and peas. We'll see how these seedings turn out, and then we will add to our collection with seedlings that we buy from the nursery in May. We are also looking to get cherry tomatoes, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries.
I have one more tray of seeds to start in the house: morning glories. I absolutely love morning glories, and I kept a ton of seeds from my plants last year. I hope that enough seeds fell on the ground outside so that a couple of plants come back this year, and I plan to give away some of the ones that I grow inside as gifts.
