I had a lovely conversation on the phone with a very nice lady from the Poison Control center on my way into work yesterday.
Want to know why Poison Control would be calling me?
It would be because they wanted to make sure that I was doing alright.
You see, the night before, I put Connor down for bed. Then, around 9:00 he woke up with a very wet diaper. So, I changed his diaper, and then pushed the pump on the hand santizer dispenser that we keep on the changing table. That's when the alcohol-based hand sanitizer shot right into my eye!
Let me tell you, that stuff really burns!
So, while I had my head in the kitchen sink, rinsing out my eye, Kevin called the local Poison Control center, because that's what the bottle said to do. Interestingly, there is no number for the Poison Control people on the bottle. Fortunately, I had it programmed into my cell phone.
Learn from my mistake:
1. Keep a first aid eye wash in the house.
2. Make sure that the pumps on your hand sanitizers, lotions, soaps, etc. don't get clogged up, making them shoot out at random, and most likely in a direction aimed right at your face.
3. Program the number for your local poison control center into your phone.
The Central Ohio Poison Control center can be reached at 1-800-222-1222. They are really nice. You might want to call them, even if you don't live in Central Ohio, if the need ever arose.
