Election Results

Someone needs to explain this to me.

At 10:00 PM, I turned on the TV to see how the election was going. I turned it back off again because I was troubled by the reporting techniques.

For instance, I saw that 78% of New York had voted for Obama, with 0% of the precincts reporting. Isn't 78% of 0% zero? How on earth did they come up with the numbers at that stage?

Most likely they were using exit poll numbers.

The 2nd likely possibility is that since NY is such a heavily populated state, 0% reporting was probably just less precincts/people than would make a whole percentage point when looking at the total voting population.

So maybe 5 precincts with 20 votes each had reported, and of those 100 votes 78 went to Obama...but 100 people isn't even a speck compared to the whole state. Clear as mud now?

Or, do you think it could be the absentee ballots that had been processed that day but don't count in an actual precinct?
