A December Resolution

Everyone knows that New Year's Resolutions usually fall apart around February.

Do you think that a resolution made on December 1st could have a better chance of survival than one made January 1st?

My December 1st Resolution: To wear a skirt at least once a week to work.

The backstory:

I have always been a very girly girl. I remember my first day of 4th grade, which was my first day of school when we moved to Columbus. The school year hadn't started yet where we had come from, but school in Columbus was already in full swing. My parents had been shocked to find that out, as they had intended for me to start right along with everyone else on the first day of the school year. But that's not how it happened.

I remember showing up for school in my favorite yellow dress. Then, the second day, I wore my favorite blue dress. I always wore dresses to school. I always had where we lived before.

On the first day of school, I met Tiffany, who didn't seem to mind the dresses. Later, I became friends with Jennifer, who was my best friend for years and years after that, all the way up until we went to different high schools. She later told me that the reason that everyone gave me such a cold shoulder when I first started those first few days was because of the dresses. She actually compared me to Scarlett O'Hara (4th graders can be so weird...I can't believe I remember that) and said that everyone thought that I must have been from a rich southern plantation family because I always wore frilly dresses!

Fast forward to high school. My best friend in high school, Sarah, didn't like to wear skirts or dresses. Her mom had noticed this, and wanting Sarah to be more feminine, had decreed that Sarah must wear a skirt or dress to school at least one time per week. Sarah was distressed by this, and I offered skirt solidarity. She would phone me and let me know that it was a "skirt day," and I would wear a skirt or dress on that day, too. It made her feel more comfortable, and I was happy to help. Of course, I still wore skirts on other days, too.

During college and after, my wardrobe picked up more skirts and dresses than pants. During the summer I was practically always in a skirt or dress. I think that I went more than a few summers owning only one pair of shorts that were rarely worn.

Even my maternity clothes were dress and skirt oriented when I was pregnant with Connor.

It has only been *very* recently that I have been wearing pants more often. And, as I am in need of a wardrobe makeover, I've been eyeing up more and more skirts. I've actually been on kind of a skirt buying frenzy, and tights for the winter are the perfect accessory, so I've been collecting those, as well.

Now, in order to make sure that I wear all of these new skirts, I am falling back on that old high school rule: at least one skirt to work per week. I think that tommorrow will be a skirt day.

Super fun--as a stay at home mom, I feel all dressed up with no where to go at times:) Stacy and Clinton would be so proud! Give me a call on "skirt" day! I'll join you:)

I ran to Micheal's tonight--they don't have the poinsettias--but I do remember buying these at JoAnne Fabrics.

And I thought I was good for resolving to wear something other than pajamas all day ;)
