Connor knows that he is going to be moving to the big bedroom and sleeping in the big bed sometime in the future. He likes the sound of it, so he has been asking for the big bed at bedtime and naptime for about a week now.
Usually, I let him fall asleep in the big bed, then I move him to his old crib so that I can have peace of mind.
Today, I'm letting him stay in the big bed for his whole nap. And I've only been up there to check to make sure that he hasn't fallen off the bed once. So far.
Should I go ahead and order bed rails? It's a double bed, so it's pretty big. Or do I wait to see if he needs them before I order them? How many times falling out of bed is too many? I mean, it is completely avoidable...

We kept Z's mattress on the floor for a few weeks, thinking she would learn the boundaries of it and thus train herself to not fall out. NOPE! 2 years later and she still has a rail on her bed...I was telling one of my friends that I think she'll need it til she's 25! We got mesh rails that slide under the mattress when not in use. I'm a big fan bc they disappear and make the room look neater when it's not bedtime.
If it makes you more comfortable to have rails even if he dosen't need them then I think they are worth getting.
Get the rails Julie, they aren't a big deal and will give you peace of mind--plus in case he reverts back a bit when baby arrives (and suddenly wants his crib--could happen) that'll make him feel a bit more cozy and secure--we still use them because of the hardwood flooring--I think we got ours at Babies R Us, (for a full size bed) and it just folds down if she doesn't want it.
Oh yeah Julie go for the rails.
The kind Meg's has are really nice because they are mesh and Z can see through them. It makes it seem less enclosing. Trust me if Meg didn't have those rails the er
would know them by first name.
