Mother's Day, Part Two

My *official* Mother's Day gift from Connor (and Kevin) is a brand new raised flower bed!

Kevin is building it for me, and he started on it Sunday evening. It is going to span the entire open length of the fence in the back of our yard, and it's going to be a trapezoid shape that extends three feet from the fence. My dad asked me today how many square feet of flowers I would have, and I must confess that I don't really know. But it's going to be big!

I've decided that I'm going to wait to plant the fall-planted bulbs until September, and in the meantime I am going to put some potted plants out there as place holders for those plants. I'm really looking forward to buying a nice hydrangea for the center of the bed, but I'm being patient and waiting until there is a place to plant the flowers before I buy them.

We have bought a ton (maybe literally?) of soil already. Here is most of it - about 1,600 lbs of soil that Kevin has been hauling around all by himself. We also have a nice stack of bags in the garage.
