I Need New Flooring

Why?

Because when we moved into our house four years ago this month, Kevin and I agreed that one of the things that we really wanted, no needed, to do was to replace the flooring in the dining room, so that it wouldn't be carpeted. With light cream-colored carpeting, none the less.

I mean, many people have carpet in their dining rooms. I don't really understand why. I can only assume that they don't actually eat in their dining rooms. But we do.

More specifically, this little guy does.

And I like him. So, if I have to choose between him and the carpet, it's the carpet that has to go!

But now for the tricky part. When do we do this? Kevin is already picking up all the jobs around the house that I used to do but cannot anymore for a while. It just seems cruel to make him remodel the house at the same time.

And it would be horrible to end up coming home from the hospital with a brand new baby and finding a half-finished kitchen/dining room/entry way.

it's so funny you bring this up--because just this morning I was remembering the cream colored carpeting we had in our dining room--old people lived here before us and put it in!!! (as I swept the floors after breakfast) and hall way to the bedrooms (same stuff that's in our living room which now has a TON of stains). When I was pregnant with my first we picked out top quality cherry laminate flooring (I did not want hardwood with the kids and dog--the bedrooms are bad enough). Anyway, it took J about a month and a half to do the job (and if Kevin goes this route, make sure he calls us about tools to rent--something called a jam saw came in big time handy--but made a lot of dust). So when I was at wk 39 my O.B. wrote an order on a his prescription pad (which I still have) that says "the floor must be done this week!"--well, he finished it--he was literally working on the very last section when my contractions were TWO MINUTES APART--he was so busy he had no idea--and I didn't quite believe my contractions were that close because they always say it takes hours--not for me:) As you know, the dining room is not cream carpet--but now a beautiful laminate--and I'm not quite sure how we'd manage w/o it. Now the living room carpet HAS to go:)

I can only imagine...

When I told Kevin that it was time to go to the hospital with Connor, he told me, "Hang on a second, I need a quick shower."

That shower wasn't quick enough for my taste AT ALL.

I definitely don't want to hear, "I'll take you to the hospital just after I finish installing this floor, and then I'll need a quick shower!"

Dear lord. I'd kill him. Probably with that jam saw thing.

do I dare mention that J DID jump in the shower--and my mom almost went in there to yank him out! The threat alone got him out! And the hospital is a good 30 minutes away--it was the coldest day of the year (I didn't notice) -112 w/o windchill--and my mom (an
R. N.--geriatrics, btw:)--did her best not to look nervous as she kept looking at her watch (1.5 minutes apart)--pretty exciting stuff:)

The c-section w/o my baby flip (#2) made life sooooo much easier (btw, she WAS head down at wk 39, and then did some acrobatics:)

Jullie-If Kev does the floor on the weekend Uncle Tom meant it when he said he would show him how to do it. If we managed to get 7 rooms done without any major catastrophies I think they can get yours done pretty easily. You know our number-just call.
