I swear that every time I go into our basement, *someone* has rearranged the furniture. Since I haven't been down here in a long while this time, the differences are amazing. We recently decided that the basement would be a totally kids-free zone, that way Kevin could set up his exercise equipment and ham radio stuff. I guess that means that the basement is also becoming his "man cave."
Anyways, enough about the basement. That's not what I'm really here to talk about.
What I'm really here to talk about is the embroidery project that I finished yesterday. I started it last weekend after I came home from the hospital to give myself something to do while I was resting (read: laying around the house). It was a crewel embroidery kit that Ella gave to me. It was a kit that her mother had purchased, but had never begun. Ella didn't want to just throw it away, and after hanging on to it for all these years, she gave it to me, because she knew that I did cross-stitch.
I had never done crewel embroidery before, but I enjoyed it. It's not the same as cross-stitch, but if you have the patience for one, I don't see any reason that you couldn't do the other. The two aren't as different from one another as, say, crocheting and knitting. (BTW- knitting is the devil.)
As I said, I finished the project yesterday. It still needs pressed and framed and gift wrapped for Ella (I don't think she reads this often, if at all, so don't mention it to her), but here is a picture:
Now I know that everyone that is paying attention will notice the names! Ella is Grandma to Connor and Lex.
That's right...we've decided to call the new baby Lex. His full name shall be Alexander Beckett.
I'll even save you a minute, and tell you what those names mean, so you don't have to go and look it up yourself.
Alexander (Greek): defender of the people; leader
Beckett (English): dweller by the brook; bee cottage; methodical
It seems to me that every place I look has a completely different meaning for the name Beckett, but the meanings for Alexander are always the same.
Kevin actually came up with the name Lex. I hadn't been considering Alexander as a first name at all until he suggested it, although I did have Beckett on a list of possible middle names. I like that Beckett is similar to Connor's middle name, Everett, without being too much the same.
Oh, and just in case you were wondering about my next project to keep myself occupied, I think I'm going to start making (crocheting) a blanket for Baby Lex. I've already picked out a cute cow patterned blanket from the same book that I made Connor's sheep blanket from, but I need to buy some yarn.

I love the name!!!
Oh, and the embroidery is adorable, too :)
I like it!! Alexander is cute, and I definitely like Lex as a nickname. I doubt you'll encounter too many others!
