The 4 Month Check-Up

Lex saw the doctor today for his official four-month well-baby visit. We were scheduled to go in last Thursday, but the doctor called us to say that *she* was sick, and while she was still seeing patients, she would understand if we wanted to wait until she felt better, just so we didn't catch her sickness. Which I thought was totally polite, and totally a great idea, so we waited a week.

On this day, Lex weighed in at 19 pounds, 4 ounces, and he measured 25 3/4 inches.

The height measurement probably isn't accurate, as it showed him shrinking on her chart since last time, but we got to chatting, and never got back to measuring him again. I shall bust out the tape measure tomorrow and see what I can come up with. You know, when I remember to do it and all.

As to his weight, he is in the 97% percentile.

The doctor said that I could start feeding him cereal now, but he still has the tongue thrust reflex that newborns are born with, and every time anything goes in his mouth, he immediately pushes it back out. This caused some trouble when he was sick and I had to give him medicine, because the only way to get him to take it was to shoot it down his little throat and make him choke on it. It was sad, but the kid had a fever, and he needed some Motrin.

Since he is still gaining weight just fine (!) by nursing only, we won't try to force any cereal down his throat until he is ready. But I have a box in the pantry, waiting!

Other news: Connor hopped on the scale, and the nurse weighed him in at 31 pounds.

WOW Julie, that’s one big little guy you've got there!

Noah (at 11 months and fully dressed with a very wet diaper) was only 18.5lbs at the pediatrician earlier today. And to compare Ethan was 22lbs 14oz.

Its like he's trying to catch up. Noah has always been a 15-25% percentile baby. Noah however is still taller, last time he was measured he was around 27inches (9 months old in Dec). Unless that changes when you re-measure him.
