Kevin's Birthday Present
Kevin had a very large hand in picking out his own birthday present this year, and it's because I don't know as much about TVs as he does. In fact, if you were to ask me now, I could only guess as to the size and type that new TV.
(For you techno-geeks out there, Kevin just informed me that it is a 46 inch LED LCD Samsung flat panel. Whatever that means.)
We've been talking about mounting a flat panel about the fire place since we bought the house five years ago, but we had to wait for technology to catch up with the dream. And then for it to become affordable enough to justify buying a new television when we already had a perfectly good one.
But I love how having the TV hanging on the wall opens up the rest of the living room. We have more floor space now.
One thing we did was run all the wires we could ever possibly need for television components, and we have a nice set of new face plates on the wall next to the electrical outlets. We can plug all sorts of things into the TV down there now.
One of the things that we can connect to the new TV is a laptop, so that everyone can watch the computer screen on the big screen. Or, we can stream rented movies.
For instance, the other night, we browsed online, ordered a movie and watched it on the TV. (Yes, I know that most of you can do that with your cable box, but we don't have a cable box.)
Then, we decided to watch a second movie. And we never even had to leave the living room. Well, except to get more microwave popcorn. Isn't technology grand?
As to the movies, we watched Idiocracy, which was very funny. Hilarious, even. Then we watched Kick Ass, which was even better and way exceeded any expectations that we had about the movie, which would have been provided by Kris during the ordering process. Man, that kid has seen every movie that has been released. Kevin and I used to be that way when we were in college, too.
We're actually thinking of going out to see a movie this weekend. Resident Evil: Afterlife in 3D is being released on Friday, and it looks awesome. I think we are due for a date night.
Oh, and I'm also looking forward to watching Vampire Diaries tonight, and the MTV VMAs on the new TV this weekend.

looks great!! We too had a tv that worked perfectly well---a 32 inch sony tube--in its day it was the second largest screen available:D But, we couldn't justify buying a new one, since it worked--but THANK YOU movers--they crushed the casing around the tube during the move (YES!!) and we now have our flat screen. We also opted for a Samsung--I REALLY didn't want to go abouve 37 inch--but we, got a 46 inch. Because we are currently renting our home, we don't want to mount it, so I wound up getting a BEAUTIFUL wood tv stand, that hides the electronics---it cost more than the tv:D and is a heck of a piece of furniture, even if we opt to mount it someday. BUT because it's within the kids' reach, a plasma actually is safer for the TV than the LED or LCD---the screen itself on the plasma is glass--if you touch your TV (which is out of reach:), you can actually push the screen IN! So, hopefully ours lasts--but I really like it--it still seems smaller than the old tube since it's not so CUMBERSOME. Got tired of moving a 250 pound tv around anyway:) Enjoy the movies--we haven't hooked our computer up yet! (also, noticed, doesn't attract as much dust either!)
