Connor's First Rocket Launch

Papa Kirk knows that Connor is obsessed with rockets, so for Christmas, he was kind enough to buy Connor not one, but two, model rockets. Forget the fact that the packaging says that the rockets are for kids age 10 and up with supervision, or ages 12 and up.

Connor, as you know is only 3. But he was able to help us build both of his rockets, and he even decorated them both all by himself. When the yellow rocket didn't come with enough decals for his taste, he added some of his own stickers. His is probably the only Estes Model Cosmic Cobra with Lightening McQueen and Mater slapped on the slide.

By the way, he pronounces decals as "dackles." I love him.

Once both rockets were built, Connor began asking to launch them. So Kevin started looking into local rocketry clubs that did group launches. And we found one that is so serious about their rockets that they even do it in the winter.

So today, we joined the Frostbite Snoopy 71 Local Club of NAR in a frozen, but still somehow muddy, farm field for what was probably the most exciting day of Connor's life.

He launched his rockets a few times, and we watched the club members launch some of their rockets. It was pure magic.

I caught his first ever rocket launch on video, and the club presented him with a certificate documenting his launch.
