Yesterday found us at the pet shop to find Connor a special treat, because Kevin had promised him a special treat if he started being nicer to Lex.
**Backstory**
We went on vacation last week (more stories about that coming soon!) and Connor and Lex were basically on top of each other all week long (in the car, in the hotel room, in the stroller, etc). Basically, I think that they were tired of having to share and play together. Also, Lex has finally reached an age where he has an opinion on how and what he wants to play, so they have been disagreeing on their play schematics for the past few days. Loudly, and somewhat violently, at times.
**End Backstory**
After being promised a special treat for being helpful with his little brother, Connor became much more responsive to Lex's cries while they were playing, and went out of his way to make him happy.
So, we loaded into the car and set out, with no real destination or special treat in mind. We ended up at the pet store. We are *so* not ready for a dog or any other high maintenance pet at this point, so we started looking at fish.
Connor picked out a small round fish bowl, blue rocks for the bottom, and four small tropical fish. The largest is fat and orange, and he named this one "Lemur." He also picked out one with a neon blue stripe and a red spot. This one is named "Glow-Star." The last two are the same type of fish, with a neon orange stripe. These two fish are named "Yo-Yo-Zoomer" and "Wow-Wow-Wubzy." I'm proud of Connor for picking out names that don't include the word "fish." This is the first time he has actually named something other than calling it what it really is.
Connor is very excited to have his very own pets. He was very concerned about how he was supposed to take care of them last night while he was sleeping, since fish swim and swim all night long.
Tonight we had to change the water in the fish bowl because he had fed the fish so much already that the excess food was dissolving and we couldn't see through the water any more. Tomorrow we will work on feeding the fish less food each time.
We have promised Connor a new fish for his bowl every month that he does a good job being nice to his little brother.

On Monday morning - two of the fish were dead. We went to the pet shop to investigate, and it turns out that you can't keep tropical fish in a counter bowl. They need a heater and a filter. Connor decided to keep the remaining two fish - because they are his after all - even if they don't live long. After they expire - if they do as predicted - we may get a beta fish. Or we might set up a bigger tank.
