Memorial Day 2011: Gone Fishin'
Early on Memorial Day, we took the boys fishing for the very first time. We went to Blacklick Creek near our house, climbed down to the bank, and found a nice pebble beach. Lex spent a good 45 minutes using his fishing pole to beat on a school of tiny fish at his feet before he started wading. Fortunately, the creek was moving pretty slowly, and most of it was only as deep as his waist. Since I was wearing my Crocs and Kevin was wearing sneakers, I was assigned middle of the creek duty. I shadowed that little boy all over the creek, making sure that he didn't slip and fall and get into trouble, while Kevin taught Connor how to cast a fishing line. Connor caught on pretty quickly.
Right now there aren't any hooks on their fishing lines. We figured that it was safer that way. Connor is still really enjoying fishing...even though he has little chance of catching a fish without a hook.
Later we had a nice BBQ at our house with our friends and family. The kids played in a swimming pool and we put a couple of tables out in the yard and ate all together. It looked liked Thanksgiving...except without the turkey.
