We ate dinner outside tonight, mostly because I had little interest in sweeping couscous off my kitchen floor. Couscous is the worst. Am I right, or am I right?
In any event, while we were dining al fresco, a pair of hummingbirds were flirting and using my backyard as their playground. At first, I had little hope of catching them with my camera, as I was busy eating and the camera was in the house. But, they kept coming back, so I decided to go fetch the camera.
Click on the photos above to get a better view of our feathered friends. He is a ruby-throated hummingbird. She is, too, but the females don't have the fabulous red throat feathers. In fact, we just went to a preschool park program about hummingbirds in the last two weeks or so.
Other note: Those bushes are butterfly bushes. We planted two: one dark purple and one light purple. All my plants are overgrown again, and I wanted to trim them tonight, but just as we were cleaning up our dinner plates, the rain started coming down.

ha, they are tricky and shy---I too have been visiting a local butterfly garden in a nature preserve (right at the bridge that goes onto Hilton Head)--and haven't seen a single butterfly; but bunches of hummingbirds, buzzing all around me--I stood perfectly still to try to capture just one, but only had my slow cell camera with---hummingbirds are cool!
