We have now watched two movies this weekend:
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
(Old and Borrowed)
I ordered this movie from Netflix because we love the X-Men movies, and I knew for a fact that we had seen the entire trilogy of those. But I didn't think that we had ever seen this one, as it had come out when I was pregnant with Lex and we weren't in the habit of going to the movies at that time, and we hadn't ordered it from Netflix yet. Oh, and I didn't remember having seen it.
So, Kevin and I sat down to watch it last night, and we realized during the first scene that we had seen that part already, but we still didn't remember watching the movie or what was going to happen next. We decided to keep watching until we no longer enjoyed the movie or we remembered how it ended. It is a testament to the quality of this movie that we watched the entire thing a second time, and we thoroughly enjoyed it, and although we remembered parts of it as it was happening, we never did remember the ending until it had actually happened.
But I finally figured out how we saw this movie for the first time: Redbox. We had a brief love affair with the Redbox before we subscribed to Netflix. (Netflix is way better, by the way.)
The Smufs
(New and Blue)
This evening, we took Connor and Lex to the movies to see the Smurfs. We saw it in 2D instead of 3D, because we still don't think our kids are ready for 3D.
The kids loved the preview for the movie Arthur Christmas. We will definitely be seeing that one. Oh, and I want to see the new Muppet movie that is coming out at Thanksgiving, too. But enough about the previews.
The kids liked the Smurfs. Quite a bit, actually. Which was surprising, because during the beginning when the evil Gargamel crashes through their village and terrorizes the Smurfs, both Connor and Lex were upset. Connor even said that he wanted to leave. I offered to take him out of the movie for a bit, and he got as far as standing up next to me, but we never left. After that scene, the rest of the movie was smooth sailing, and they really liked it. I know I laughed heartily a few times at jokes that they didn't seem to understand yet. And they laughed at all the little kid humor.
We were particularly happy to see so many familiar sights from our trip to New York City. I am so glad that we took the boys there so that we can point out things that they may remember. We must go back someday when they are a little bit bigger, too.
