Trick or Treat!

This Halloween, we went out looking for treats twice. Two different types of treats!

First, we went to our favorite local Mexican restaurant for lunch with some friends. The deal was that everyone wearing a costume would receive 50% off their bill. The three of us ate lunch for about $10. Oh, and since the kids filled up on salsa and chips while waiting for their meals, and because my lunch was so huge, we had a ton of leftovers, which we ate for dinner. So we scored lunch and dinner for $10.

After dinner, we participated in our neighborhood's more traditional variety trick or treating.

Connor dressed as Darth Vader and Lex dressed as Mickey Mouse. I was still wearing my same witch costume from lunch, which really bothered Connor, especially since I was a witch for trick or treating last year, too. He has proclaimed that I am not allowed to trick or treat as a witch next year.

Although this is a very close second choice.

Yes, Lex is sniffing the candy.

After we walked around our neighborhood for about 45 minutes, we headed home to pass out candy. (We had just left a bowl of candy on our porch while we took the boys around, and it was still pretty well-stocked when we got back.) I think Connor could have gone a little longer, but Lex was definitely starting to get tired. I ended up carrying him for the last few houses. I was so proud of Lex and Connor while we were out, though. They both said "Trick or Treat" and "Thank You" at each house.

This is how we do it, passing out candy from the garage, where we set the kids up with their own little table upon which to feast on candy and salty caramel hot chocolate. (Connor asked me, "Did you put marshmallows in it? Is there popcorn in here?" Since I denied both, he figured it must be the same hot cocoa I usually make him, and he drank it. Because it is good. But if I had told him it was something new, he wouldn't have touched it, I'm sure.)
