Cruiser has become more aggressive in sharpening his claws of late. In fact, I was clipping them several times a week, and as soon as I was done blunting them, he would go and start sharpening them on the rug by the back door. He seems to have some sense of self-preservation, choosing the smallest cheapest rug in our house to use to sharpen his nails.
But, he had started to leave little scratch marks all over the boys' hands. This was upsetting. So, Kevin got an estimate from the vet to have Cruiser declawed. Not wanting to spend $400 on a cat, we started looking at alternative solutions. That's when Kevin discovered Soft Paws.
I put them on Cruiser's nails yesterday. It wasn't even hard. I gave Cruiser a little saucer of cream, and then while he was enjoying his treat, I slipped the plastic over his nails. I put glue in 2 or 3 at a time, then put them on. Then I put glue on 2 or 3 more, and slipped those on. Eventually, all 10 of his front nails were covered.
He took one off within an hour. But I wasn't surprised. It was his shortest nail, and he had damaged it somehow. He really complained when I put that one on. Plus, it was a thumb nail, so it isn't really one of the ones he uses to scratch with.
As Kevin said, 90% isn't bad.
It's the second day now, and the remaining 9 are still on. And we all love them. I think even Cruiser is happier.
P.S. We are taking that Christmas tree down today. I swear.
