Kevin and I are both from Ohio, so we are really only familiar with the Ohio variety wildlife warning signs that appear on freeways. So, when we saw this:
...we weren't entirely sure what we were dealing with. Eventually, and after much joking, we settled on a huge mutant white tail deer. And in the end, we weren't too far off the mark.
While we were driving around in the Grand Canyon National Park, a large group of elk ran across the road, and we stopped to take photos.
It turns out that the signs were meant to refer to elk in the first place. Also, when we were visiting it was the time of year just after the males shed their antlers, so we didn't get to see any with huge antlers on their heads.
Approximately one mile after we stopped to stalk the elk, we encountered this sign:
...but fortunately, we never encountered any mountain lions. Or huge mutant house cats.

A mountain lion crossing??? That's so AWESOME!!
I know! The first time you see a mountain lion crossing, your blood runs a little bit cold, and you wonder what *exactly* you have gotten yourself and two small (very tasty looking) children into.
While j, the girls and i were on one of our smokies camping trips, we heard a bobcat meowing growling RIGHT outside of our popup camper window
