Last year the tractors were a big hit with our set. And the year before that, too. And maybe even the year before that, but I can't remember that clearly. Was Lex even born then? My memory is fuzzy.
Sidebar: Have I ever told you about the time that I was in the hospital (for something, I can't clearly recall, but it was in the last 5 years or so) and was hooked up to an IV that was delivering some delicious liquid painkillers, and I could feel myself forgetting things?
But I digress. Buckle up kids, this is going to be a long post. I can feel that, too.
Okay, so we get a postcard from COSI announcing the Farm Days 2012 Event. Mark the date on the calendar. Purchase a new John Deere shirt for Connor to wear, as he has outgrown all his old ones. Make sure Lex has an old one of Connor's that fits. Wait with eager anticipation.
Then, opening day arrives. The kids don't really feel like leaving the house. Connor wants to wear his Pokemon shirt instead. We decide that it might be a fun outing after lunch. So, we wait a bit longer, with a bit less eager anticipation.
I figured that once we got there and saw the tractors, the magic would work itself and they would get excited then.
But it didn't happen that way.
We walked out onto the plaza where the tractors were parked, and the boys ran right past all of them, and straight to the city water fountains by the river. That's where the magic happened.
They started out just placing their hands in the water.
Totally ignoring the tractors.
Next, in went the feet.
Then, the shoes came off.
While we were playing in the water (my boys, who didn't like water earlier this summer! I am so proud!), our friends were enjoying the tractors. You probably can't tell for the glare, but there, in that combine, are our good friends, Julie and Logan.
Julie and I agree. We both figured that Logan would be the one in the fountains, and the boys would be in the tractors. Some days are just wacky, though.
Eventually, all pretense of staying dry vanished.
The boys got totally soaked.
20 minutes and 99 fountain photos later, they were ready to see a tractor. But just one.
Maybe if they had been yellow and green John Deere tractors they would have been more interested. I don't know.
The only other thing that Connor and Lex wanted to do before going back into COSI to get dry clothes was to ride the John Deere pedal tractors.
The end
