I cannot say how much fun this was. (I mean, I will try, but so fun.) I am so so glad that we took the kids. After we left, they asked if we could do this every time we went to Dallas, which is what Kevin and I had already decided sounded like the best idea ever. It's great that we all had a wonderful night, and we would all love to do it again.
Here they are, meeting His Royal Highness, The King.
We bought Connor and Lex foam swords, which might be their second favorite prized possessions right now, only second to their iPads.
Make no mistake about it, they can still wallop each other pretty well with the foam swords, and they have been taken away a few times already.
While we were waiting for dinner, we ended up in the Museum of Torture. Lex wanted to go in first, so he and Daddy got tickets. Then, once they left us, Connor decided he wanted to go in as well, so he and I joined them.
The museum was full of creepy old torture implements and signs that described how they were used.
It was fairly terrifying. So afterwards we went to look at some of the horses in the stables.
Then, it was time for dinner!
There were no utensils, but that was surprisingly not a problem. My kids never bother with those things anyways. (Just kidding. Well, mostly.)
Papa Kirk and Grandma Ella enjoyed the show, too. Although Grandma Ella would have preferred a fork and knife to use to eat her chicken and potato.
The food was actually very good. And it was served in large quantities. I felt like it was a regular medieval feast.
The show itself was amazing. There were so many horses and riders and they did wonderful tricks.
Our knight was the black and white knight.
After dinner was mostly over, a net was lowered around the ring, and the jousting tournament began.
It was so exciting! Everyone was shouting and cheering on their knights. Lex was jumping up and down with his arms up in the air, screaming as loud as he could.
At one point, Connor looked over at us and asked, "Are they really going to kill each other." I told him no, but of course Daddy told him that they would. He had a hard time watching the fighting after that, even though I told him Daddy was just teasing, and that the knights were basically dancing with each other for show.
I could tell he didn't quite believe me, though, because he seemed genuinely surprised when all the "dead" knights reappeared at the end to take their bows.
After it was all over, we had the chance to meet our knight in person. He was a pretty big guy.
Three cheers for Medieval Times! It was epic! So much fun for dinner.
