Frozen. Again.

Remember when it got so cold outside that the pipes for the fire sprinkler system in our building froze and burst open and it flooded our apartment?  I called it the Great Frozen Flash Flood of 2014.  Well, that was aptly named, and this time we are going to call it the Frozen Flood of 2015.

It happened on New Year's Day.

We were all four of us sitting on the couch in the living room watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit (golly, I could write an entire post just about all the movies we watched over Christmas break) when I heard water trickling down the window pane beside me.

I knew that sound.

I immediately hopped up and started giving everyone orders.  Everyone else thought I was crazy, but they did what I asked anyways, and it soon became apparent why I was suddenly running around.

The movie got paused.  The couch got pushed away from the wall where the water was intruding.  Towels and blankets were fetched, along with a bucket and some cups.  The kids moved all the rest of the Christmas presents that were still sitting under the tree to higher ground.  Kevin and I unhooked the entertainment center and moved all the electronics.  We fetched the building manager and he shut the water off.

It was a big mess, but it was smaller than last time.  Partly because the apartment above us got most of the water this time, and partly because this wasn't our first rodeo.  I won't bore you with any photos of the mess.  You've already seen that.

What I will show you is just how cold it had been at our house that week.

This was on Tuesday.  Two days before the flood.  Nine degrees outside with 21 mph winds.  Crazy cold.

Who knew it got so cold in Texas?  Like ever?  Apparently not the people who designed and built our brand new apartment complex, because the maintenance guys said that they had been cleaning up floods in buildings all night long.  Some way to spend New Year's Eve, huh?

In the end, the only trouble it caused us was two extra loads of laundry to wash all those wet blankets and towels, and the reappearance of those really loud fans, which make staying home impossible.

So, after we got the house all cleaned up and the Christmas stuff taken down and put away, we decided to go out and find someplace more quiet.

We ended up at the mall first, where we played some black light mini golf.

Afterwards, we ended up at BW3s where we sat and ate and watched the Rose Bowl and sat and ate and watched the Sugar Bowl and ate some more.
