Groundhog Day

Yesterday was Groundhog Day, so we did a little unit study.

We read some books:

Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day by Gail Gibbons.  I love Gail Gibbons books.  They are perfect nonfiction books for elementary school.

Groundhog Day

Geoffrey Groundhog Predicts the Weather by Bruce Koscielniak.  This was a fun story where mother always knows best, so it's got my vote for sure.

Groundhog Day

Double Trouble Groundhog Day by Bethany Roberts.  A great book about how siblings can fight, and work together.  Because twins.

We watched a video:

We talked about the time that we went to see Punxsutawney Phil.  Connor said we should do that again soon.  Which surprised me.  A lot, actually.  Because I think both Kevin and I had always wanted to go, are glad that we went, but don't actually intend to do it ever again.  Because snow.  Maybe we can catch one of the southern Groundhog Day celebrations next year.  Like maybe we can go see General Lee down in Georgia.

Then we checked to see what Phil said this year, which is that there will be six more weeks of winter.  The kids weren't too happy about that.  But it's hard to be mad at a groundhog.
