Kite Wars

We went to a park this past weekend on Sunday afternoon to fly kites, because it was perfect kite flying weather.

While we were there, Lex decided that he was the Best Kite Flyer in the Family.  And it kind of seemed like he was, until he decided that he was done with his kite, and decided to simply set the string holder down on the ground. I tried to grab it, but of course, it blew away and floated off with the wind.  I chased it for a bit, until it crossed the freeway next to the park.  At this point, I declared to Lex that his beloved Blue Angels kite was probably lost for all time.

Lex was concerned that losing his kite would mean losing his Best Kite Flyer in the Family status, and Connor was quick to adopt the title himself.  So, Lex decided that we had to find his kite, and that if we could find it, he would still be the Best Kite Flyer in the Family.

And so, we loaded back into the car, left the park, and drove around the neighborhood on the other side of the freeway opposite the park for a long time.  We drove up and down all the streets very slowly.  We drove down alleys.  Then, right before the sun was about to go down and put an end to the search, I spotted the kite hanging in someone's back yard.  So, we knocked on their door and got their assistance and retrieved the Blue Angels kite, along with Lex's status as the Best Kite Flyer in the Family.
