Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and to celebrate, we went to the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site yesterday.

You see, MLK was born and raised in Atlanta, and there is a beautiful center near his childhood home and church that is operated by the National Parks Service.

We walked through the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.

There is a rose garden that is decorated with poems about peace written by Atlanta school children.  We will need to go back in the spring when the roses are in bloom to admire them properly.

We also walked from the church up the street to his home.  We weren't able to tour his home because all the tickets were sold out.  So, when we go back to see the roses, we can tour the home then.

His house was the tan house with the dark brown trim.  We visited the book store in the house next door, though.

We also explored the visitor center which houses exhibits and movies about MLK and the Civil Rights Movement.
