On Sunday, we traveled to my grandparent's house for my cousin's 6th birthday party. (If you want to be technical, Hannah is my first cousin, once removed, but no one wants to be that technical). The party was fun and I think that Hannah had a good time. She had a Hannah Montana birthday cake, and it was chocolate and delicious. I posted an album of pictures from the party on my Shutterfly site. (Need the address to that site? Just ask!)
While we were there, Pam reminded me to ask Grandma about the story we had heard wherein she used a flashlight to shine a light into my maternal grandparent's windows at night. You can re-read that story here.
Anyways, at first I got a bit confused and asked her if my Grandma Fay had ever shined a flashlight in on her. She denied that this ever happened, and then proceeded to tell us that if it had ever happened, that she would have shot her 22 in the direction of the light. Apparently she kept a gun right next to her chair in the living room.
Then, when asked if she ever shone a flashlight at my Grandma Fay, well, she admitted that she had, but that it wasn't just any old flashlight. According to her, it was a "beamer" that one of her friends and her had spent a week building. I'm picturing a spotlight and a shotgun barrel kind of thing. And, not only was she pointing the "beamer" at their house, but her gun, as well. Oh dear!

Once, when we were spending the weekend at my grandparent's house when I was a child, my mom found a loaded gun in the washing maching when she went to do laundry. Of course, this makes more sense that you may think, because the washing machine was in the kitchen right next to the front door. Even though having the laundry there isn't fashionable, it would be highly convenient.
And, since we are on the subject, I may as well tell you that one of the first things that I learned to read was the sign that used to be on the front door of my grandparent's house. It read: "Tresspassers will be shot. Survivors will be shot again." Classy sort of welcome, huh? They really are good people, although you might not be able to tell upon a first glance. They just come from a different time and a different place.
