Talking Fire Alarm

Kevin went ahead and purchased one talking fire alarm for the upstairs of our house, and installed it just outside of Connor's bedroom. It was about $50, he got it at Home Depot, and it is a combination smoke and carbon monoxide detector.

He was installing it after Connor and I had already gone to bed for the night, and while installing it, he accidentally tested it. It woke me up, but it didn't wake Connor. Go figure.

The test volume of the alarm is lower than the actual volume of the alarm would be during a fire situation. Then, the alarm would sound at 75 decibels. Maybe that would wake Connor.

I like the voice. This way we will immediately know for sure whether it is the fire alarm, carbon monoxide alarm or the security system going off, even when groggy from sleep. This has been a problem for us in the past - we would wake up to an ear piercing alarm, and we wouldn't know which of the three alarm systems in our house had triggered it. That only served to increase my panic.

Can the alarm be programmed with your voice? The article I read said that was very effective.
