Well, I'm impressed. Who in the heck inspired you to make and decorate a cake today:) It sounds and looks so fancy (I don't know if I've ever had fondant? I'm hoping to just learn how to use the tips I don't own yet with frosting:)--I think I'll run to Micheal's tonight and pick up a dot tip, and a flower one (dots for mine and flowers for K's----is there anything else you recommend me getting to help boost my very elementary cake decorating skills (or lack there of)?
-Bon Apetite!

Get a star shaped tip...those are fun. Leaf tips are easy to use as well.

There are some good beginners sets of tips out there, but I got a beginners set, and now I wish I had just gone ahead and gotten the larger tip set right away. I think its more economical than buying the tips one at a time.

Well, my band rehearsal went later than expected, so Michael's locked its doors just as I got there. Since I wanted something asap, I went to Target next door, and did wind up with a Wilton starter kit--I think it'll be just fine for my needs--it was only like $10-$12.

How did your cake taste?

Delicious! Kevin and Connor both loved it.

Kevin was over the moon about the almond-chocolate buttercream...and he loved the new fondant recipe as well. He even complimented me on the chocolate cake! Overall, the cake was a huge success.
