First it was cars. Then it was the lawn mower. Now, Connor is obsessed with the weed whacker, leaf blower and edger. I'm sure you saw the video I posted where he was playing with the weed whacker.
At our house, all of those tools are electric. That means that they won't turn on unless they are plugged in. This is why we felt comfortable allowing Connor to pretend to use them.
Tonight, he kept complaining, "Won't turn on. Need power."
So, Kevin explained to him about the power and the extension cord, and how he was never never ever allowed to plug them in. At one point during this very serious discussion, Kevin actually said, "With great power, comes great responsibility." I had to turn away so Connor wouldn't see me crack up at this very serious moment.
Then, it was bedtime. Connor wasn't ready yet, because he still hadn't gotten any power to turn on his tools. I carried him into the house, crying and screaming, "I need power. I NEED POWER!" It reminded me of a mad scientist.
He carried on like that the entire time I was washing him up and brushing his teeth. All the windows in the house were open, and I feel for our neighbors. They probably feel for us.
By the time we changed his diaper and put his moose pajamas on, he seemed to have forgotten about it. We then read some pretty long books, and I turned out the lights, tucked him in and said our good night prayers.
In the middle of the prayer, he interjected one request for God: "I need power."
I guess he hadn't forgotten after all!
Hopefully he won't wake me up in the middle of the night, screaming, "Mommy, I need power!" Although, if he does, I'll let you know.
