Last night, while driving home from the hospital around midnight (more on that in a second), Connor asked us where the sun had gone. We told him that the sun went down at night. He thought about that for a second, and then he said, "Sun under bridge." Only it *really* sounded like he said "Son of a b*tch." He said it a few times and Kevin and I just looked at each other before I figured out what he was really saying.
Um, so why were we driving home from the hospital at midnight last night? Well, because we weren't having a baby, that's why.
I spent a few hours in a triage room in labor and delivery last night, after having bone crushing contractions all day, starting around noon. I was in some serious discomfort ranging to actual pain, and it hurt in my tailbone, back, pelvis, and ribcage. I didn't want to go to the hospital too soon, so we waited until after 9:00 PM to head out, and I was planning to let everyone know when we got admitted. But we never did. The nurse said that I wasn't contracting. She used some word that sounded like "pandora" or "primordial" and I really think she made it up.
I saw my doctor this morning, and she couldn't tell me what had happened either. I told her that I was having painful contractions that the nurse said weren't actually contractions at all, and she told me that didn't sound right. I asked her if she could tell me what word the nurse had used, and she couldn't. But, after a thorough examination, she told me she would get the hospital records and review them and let me know if anything looked out of place.
So, last night remains a mystery to me.
And, the doctor says we should have a baby by Tuesday. (Of course, last week she said that we would have a baby by today.)
Good news: My doctor is the doctor on call at the hospital this weekend, so if it does happen this weekend, she will be the one there!

ouch, sorry for your rough day yesterday--glad you're feeling better today. I've had the 27th in my head for your baby's birthdate for a few days now--hmmmm. I hope your own doc delivers---that really makes a big difference. My OB left for Guatamala for a missionary (helping preg women there) down there the day my first came--and I missed having him in delivery with us. BTW, when I called the birthing center the morning of her birth, the nurse said what I described didnt' sound like labor--and not to come in yet-we drove in anyway, and while I was standing there to be checked in my water broke all over their floor (tee hee, served her right for telling me I wasn't in labor:) and I was less than 2 min apart-and she came into the world 4 hours later:) I"m going to send you an email--I have answers to my stuff!
Hi Julie,
the word she used was "prodromal". It is often misunderstood as false labor, but it's sort of early labor that doesn't progress to the birth of the baby. I had the same thing happen to me. I called the midwife a week before the baby actually came because I had very few contractions. She said I was in predromal labor and it coculd go on for a week or so. It went away though. It was just a warm up, I guess.
My baby was born on Sept. 27th, so we have a big ONE coming up here soon. Maybe you will have a 27th birthday baby too :-)
Ahh...thanks! I was hoping that someone else knew what I was talking about, even though I didn't.
I would have no idea what you were talking about. I don't even think I really every had any labor before my c-section.
You still have 2 1/2 hours to get that kid out on my birthday...
