We took a ride on the Zoo Train

Connor was very excited to ride the train at the zoo. We've had our zoo membership for a year now, and it was the first time we had made it onto the train.

After we paid for our tickets, we were walking through the line towards the train as it was loading. The entire time, Connor was screaming about how other people were taking his seat on the train, but I didn't really realize it above the general din.

It wasn't until we were almost to the front of the line that I realized he was really ticked off.

I explained to him that the people in front of us had waited their turn, and that we had to wait our turn, and that we may or may not get onto the train this time around.

And then, the train master cut off the flow of people onto the train at us! Connor looked fit to pitch a huge fit, but I told him that we were first in line for the next train, and that meant we could pick any seat that he wanted. He wanted to sit right up front. We waited patiently after that.

He does this same thing on the way to the grocery store. He knows what kind of cart he wants at each store (Andersons: truck cart; Kroger: race car cart; Wal-Mart and Target: "twos" cart, which is a side-by-side stroller cart). In the parking lot, he'll complain that he thinks that other people are taking his cart right now.

When we are pulling into the library, he complains that other kids are picking the Thomas the Train movies right now, or whatever else he has his little heart set on.

And I don't know where it comes from. We pretty much always end up with what he wanted without trouble anyways. And I always explain to him that we will get whatever is available, and we will be happy no matter what.

This is a normal kid thing, right? Or am I handling it wrong?

I think my girls went through that, ok, just my oldest--and mostly with the fancy shopping carts--only we never got one:(
