Fifty Nifty United States
We have a wonderful Melissa and Doug puzzle depicting the USA. Connor loves puzzles, so it has been a great way to introduce him to maps and the states and all that.
For instance, this week we put our puzzle together and talked about all the states we visited during our recent vacation. Here is Connor showing me what he calls "ew-ork city." I love the way his mispronounces "New York!"
We watched President Obama's first address from the oval office the other night, and when he started naming the different states on the gulf coast that were being plagued by the oil spill (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama), Connor says, "Hey, he is talking about our puzzle!" I was proud.
Ever since the boys were born, I've wanted to take them places so that they can see the world. I know Kevin feels the same way. We've never specifically talked about a goal of taking them to all 50 states - it's more of an unspoken thing. But of course we would want to take them to all 50 states! Heck, I want to go to all 50 states!
So, without much further ado:
Lex has been to the following (8) states:
Ohio
West Virginia
Kentucky
Pennsylvania
New York
New Jersey
Connecticut
Massachusetts
Connor has been to the following (12) states:
Ohio
West Virginia
Kentucky
Pennsylvania
New York
New Jersey
Connecticut
Massachusetts
Indiana
Illinois
Michigan
Wisconsin
Julie (I love referring to myself in third person) has been to the following (21) states:
Ohio
West Virginia
Virginia
Kentucky
Tennessee
Pennsylvania
New York
New Jersey
Connecticut
Massachusetts
Indiana
Illinois
Michigan
Wisconsin
Missouri
Kansas
Arizona
Georgia
Florida
North Carolina
South Carolina
I won't attempt to list the states that Kevin has traveled to, as I could only list with certainty the ones that we visited together. But I do know that he has been to Texas, Nevada and California, which I have not yet seen.

How cute! My husband and I hope to hit all 50 states at some point too :)
Ah, what a dream, to hit all 50 states.
And I had a states puzzle when I was little and used to try and put them in as fast as possible. Strangely, it somewhat backfired, so I can thoughtlessly picture the shape of every state, but often confuse the names of the middle ones.
We sang that song in fifth grade music class and to this day I can still name all fifty states in alphabetical order in under 30 seconds.
@ Pam, I just mumbled during that part of the song! I never did learn it!
