Monday Done Day

Today we were busy as bees.

First I had promised Connor that we would use his new Creepy Crawlers Maker to make bugs. But, upon opening the box, I discovered that I needed to go to the store and purchase a 60 watt 120 volt small candelabra bulb to cook to bugs.

So we went outside to gather the hazelnuts from our tree. Lex kept trying to run away. He was just walking around like he owned the whole block. He stayed on the sidewalk the whole time. Chasing him down only slowed down the hazelnut gathering process a tad.

Then we went to Target. We watched that new Mickey Mouse dance and dance and dance. Finally, I told Connor that he could push the button one more time. Then Lex pushed it again. After getting out of the toy aisle with the dancing Mickey, we walked past the new Big Foot Monster display and had to push that button. Toys R Us ain't got nothing on the Target toy department displays!

I also browsed the Halloween displays and picked up a witch's hat and some spiderweb tights for my Trick or Treating costume.

Finally, we found the lightbulbs and headed home. We made our first bug. I was totally at a loss as to what to do with it after it was made, so I ended up sticking it to the window. It stuck right to the glass.

We made several more bugs later in the afternoon. The best one, by far, was the fly that Connor did all by himself, which is mostly black with just a hint of white. He is an artist!

After mastering the art of making bugs, Connor decided that he wanted to master the art of decorating cup cakes.

Who ever designed this toy has never baked before. Either that, or they were an expert in torture tactics.

Directions: Wash mixing bowl and utensils. Make batter for one cupcake. Bake one cupcake in microwave. Wash mixing bowl and utensils. Make frosting for one cupcake. Use contraption to frost one cupcake (this is the fun part). Wash frosting gun and mixing bowl and utensils. Make batter for one cupcake. Bake one cupcake. Poke eye out with tiny plastic spatula. Wash tiny spatula and mixing bowl. Make frosting. Rinse and repeat, if desired.

Thankfully there were only four cupcakes. We made them all. With all the individual prep and cleaning so that the strawberry frosting wouldn't contaminate the cinnamon cake batter, it took all of Lex's nap to make the four cupcakes.

We saved the cupcakes for an after dinner cupcake party.

Then we went out to check the mail, and Lex decided to run away again. We went for a walk around the block, at Lex's pace, and he walked 85% of the route.

The only thing that I got in the mail today was an American Girl catalog. What am I going to do with that? I pitched it directly in the recycling bin.

I'm sure that there is more, but I know that no one really wants to read about the ghost hand towels that I bought at Target or the 14 times that I had to sweep the kitchen floor today (those little sprinkles from the cupcake kit were sneaky little devils!).

Isn't it a nice pumpkin-y pot holder? At least half of my best pot holders came from you.
