One of the displays that we saw at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens made use of these little tiny crystals that you soak in water, and then they provide water and nutrients to the plants. They are super pretty, and you can color them and put them in vases with cut flowers. Or you can plant directly in the crystals in a clear pot. I think they are fasinating. They are called AquaRocks, and I think I'm going to order some for a few springtime projects. It would be a nice way for the boys to see the root systems of plants as they develop.
