I had a great Birthday!

It started on Thursday night...the night before my birthday. I got the boys into bed and all tucked in before 8:00, which meant that I got to sit down on the couch and catch the newest episode of Vampire Diaries as it aired on television! This is a treat for me. I've only managed to do it two or three times in three seasons now.

The next morning, we kicked off my birthday bright and early. I had made my birthday cake the day before, using the new stand mixer that Kevin bought for me. I had planned on icing the cake with orange frosting and pink flowers. But, after I got the orange frosting on the cake, Connor asked me to make it look like a Jack-o-Lantern. So I did.

Lex spent the rest of the day asking when we could eat the cake. Since we kept telling him that he had to wait until Mommy's birthday, it was the first thing he wanted to do on Mommy's birthday. So the boys roused me from bed, and we did the whole cake and candles and singing thing before breakfast. Then, we ate birthday cake for breakfast. It was fabulous, and I am now of the opinion that all birthdays should begin with cake for breakfast.

We went swimming, and then we ate at a Mexican restaurant for lunch. I got to go to the mall all by myself for a few hours and do a little shopping.

We went to the Melting Pot for dinner, and it was delicious. The boys were well behaved, but a three course fondue is a long time to wait for chocolate. Lex liked the cheese dip well enough, but they kept asking when the chocolate fondue was coming. I think next time we go to the Melting Pot with Connor and Lex, we will only do dessert.

After dinner we went to Barnes & Noble, one of my favorite stores. It was the perfect ending to a perfect outing. Kevin and I watched Star Wars III after the boys went to bed.

The best part? The next morning when I woke up, Connor said to me, "Can you believe it? Today is the second day of your birthday!" And Saturday was just as great as the day before.

"Second day of your birthday" is so much better than my family's version, Pinch Day. Happy birthday! Halloween cake for breakfast is unbeatable.
