Breaking Dawn - Part I

I wasn't a big fan of the first Twilight movie when it first came out. I complained about it. A lot.

And I didn't bother to see New Moon or Eclipse when they came out, either.

But, around Halloween, we caught a second viewing of Twilight on television. And it wasn't so bad the second time. (That's not to say that we didn't poke fun at Kristen Stewart's bad acting.) So, I went ahead and ordered New Moon and Eclipse from Netflix. They were enjoyable enough, and the movies got better with each one. Also, I think it helps that I haven't read the books in a while, so any conflicts with the books were (a little bit) less noticeable.

Thus prepared, Kevin and I went to see Breaking Dawn - Part I in the theater this weekend. It was fabulous!

We both really enjoyed the movie. It is definitely the best one in the series thus far. And, we are looking forward to the release of the second movie. The movie ending was great, and it was well-timed in the story, too.

That isn't to say that there weren't laughable parts. I thought that Edward and Bella's use of what looked like an officially licensed Breaking Dawn chess set was hilarious marketing. And there was a particularly intense scene with the wolves that left both Kevin and I in stitches, even though it clearly wasn't supposed to.

What else do I want to say? Some of the imagery in the movie was absolutely visually stunning. And the costumes. Very pretty to look at. And there was a montage that was almost as well done as my favorite movie montage ever - that being the ending of the movie Armageddon.
