Robots. Robots. Rolie Polie Olie. Robots. Again!
A few weeks ago, we took the boys to the local town center to see the movie Robots as part of their Winter Family Movie Series. I feel like I have told you this already, but can find no evidence that it is so. And if I didn't blog about it, then it didn't happen. Right?
Sidebar: Did you know that I was in Texas a week ago? I might have left part of my brain there. I can't keep my days and weeks straight, nor can I remember what I said to this person, or what that person said to me. Lately.
End Sidebar. Official.
So, we took the boys to see Robots. None of us had ever seen it before. And I don't know why not. Because it is the best kids movie ever made. Kevin liked it. I loved it. Connor loved it. Lex adored it so much that he wants to marry it.
Robots is entertaining, funny, whimsical, fun to look at, and it has a good message, too. Oh, the comedy! One favorite conversation around here now is, "What was your favorite part of the movie Robots?" Did you know that you can have this conversation about 28 times and that it will always be different each time?
Lex asked to watch Robots again the next day. I tried to explain that it wasn't actually still showing at the theater, because it is an older movie that was only playing one time as a special. But Lex is two, and not to be dissuaded. So, we checked Netflix, and added it to our queue. And, we checked the library and reserved it. The next day, Connor spotted a full screen DVD version at Target for only $5. Five Dollars. So I handed it to Lex, nevermind that it wasn't Blue Ray or Widescreen or any of that nonsense. We had Robots. For $5.
And then we didn't. That stupid movie that Lex was hugging all through Target somehow disappeared from the cart before we checked out. And I didn't go back to the back of the store for another one. We would surely be in Target again soon, and maybe we could find a Blue Ray or a Widescreen version elsewhere.
Then, we stopped at the library on the way home, and lo and behold...Robots....Widescreen...was waiting for us! So we went right home and popped it into the DVD player.
Lex has watched that movie every day since then. Sometimes twice a day. He would rather it was just on a 24/7 playback loop, please.
He even found a copy of the Robots storybook on our own bookshelf here at home. We've had a copy all this time!
And then, he found more robot stuff. He discovered some more robot DVDs at the library.
Rolie Polie Olie is preschool robot love. In both DVD and book form. We have a good half-dozen DVDs from the libary, as well as a good half-dozen books from the library. The only acceptable reason for turning off Robots in Lex's mind is to watch Rolie Polie Olie. And if Mommy finally puts her foot down and makes him turn off the TV, we have to read Robots and Rolie Polie Olie. Again! Again!
So, yeah. We're big into robots around here now. And that works well because robots and rockets go really well together.
