Where to Eat in Chicago: Breakfast Edition

I know that there are so many fabulous food choices in Chicago.  I mean, right?!

We ate at two really great breakfast joints during our last trip.  And I love me a good breakfast/brunch place.  Little known fact: If I was ever going to open a restaurant, it would be a breakfast joint.  But I would never actually open a restaurant.

First, lets talk about Yolk.  We sat down and ordered drinks and a plate of scrambled eggs and sausage for the boys right away.  Before Kevin and I could even figure out what we wanted to eat, our two hungry boys were already digging into the eggs and sausages.  And my boys can eat some eggs and sausages.  We couldn't believe how fast their food arrived!

I ordered the Tour de France, which is a sampler platter of french toast.  Banana Nut french toast topped with fresh bananas and peanut butter.  (For the record, Lex ate my entire pot of peanut butter.)  Sweet orange french toast topped with strawberries and Grand Marnier syrup.  Lemon poppy seed french toast topped with blueberries and maple syrup.  So so so good!

Sidebar:  I think Kevin ordered some type of crepes, and he said they were delicious, too, but I was honestly too consumed with consuming my own dream plate that I didn't pay his breakfast much mind.

Second, let's talk about Eggsperience.  Another wonderful breakfast experience for our family!

Kevin ordered the Eggspecially Good Lox Platter.  (Menu description:  "Indulge in delicate slices of Nova Soctia lox and a fresh bagel plated with scallions, cucumbers, olives and cream cheese.")  He had water to drink.

I ordered coffee and the strawberry crepes.  My plate must have weighed twenty pounds, those crepes were so over-stuffed with creme and berries.  But it was delicious, even though I hardly put a dent into that serving!

The boys ordered a plate of sausages as soon as we sat down, as well as a glass of milk each.  I tried to talk them into ordering the Green Eggs and Ham, but neither did.  Connor went with a grilled cheese and french fries, while Lex ordered a Mickey Mouse pancake.

Now I was expecting this Mickey Mouse pancake to be a set of three pancakes arranged on the plate to resemble Mickey.  But no.  This was a full body profile Mickey Mouse made in a special pan, with fruit arranged for his facial features and clothes.  Oh, and it was huge!  That pancake was probably 11" x 13" at least.

So, you know what we ordered.  Wanna know how much it cost?  $60.  Plus tip.  And cab fare to and from the restaurant.  Yolk was much cheaper, just in case you were wondering.  But I can't decide which was better.  They were both fabulous!
