Fork & Screen

On Friday afternoon, we had plans to go visit Nana and Grandpa at their house.  When we were getting ready to leave, I asked the boys what they wanted to bring with us.  I figured that they would want to bring their laptops, and that Connor would want to bring his Steelers football.  What I didn't know is what toy Lex would elect to bring with him.  But it turns out that I really didn't know anything at all.

Connor told me that he wanted to bring his backpack with his pajamas.  Lex wanted his backpack with pajamas and teddy bear.  They were going to have a sleepover at Nana's house.

I told them that they had to ask both me and Nana before they could have a sleepover at Nana's house, but they went ahead and packed up one overnight backpack each.

And so we went to Nana's house and I told Nana that they boys were planning to have a sleepover at her house that night, but that they hadn't asked me yet.  She was just as surprised as I was.

The day wore on, and finally the kids got the message that they had to ask.  First they asked me, and then they asked Nana, and then they were all set for their sleepover at Nana's house.  And Kevin and I found ourselves totally able to go on a date.

We went to Easton to grab dinner and a movie.  And we were totally surprised when we got there by the huge line at the movie ticket counter.  Not so much by its length, but by the snail's pace at which it was moving.  So, we abandoned the line and opted to use a self-service movie ticket kiosk.  Which is when we discovered that things have really changed since the last time we went to the movies there.

Now there are three types of theaters there.  There's the regular movie theather.  Then there is the Fork & Screen movie theater, and then there is the Cinema Suites.  We ended up choosing the Fork & Theater based on the starting time of the movie we wanted to see.  We were surprised by the age restriction for the theater itself (18 and up) but that was no big deal, so we moved past that screen.  Then we were more surprised by the screen where we had to choose exactly which seats we wanted.  But, we got some nice seats near the back of the theater.  No wonder the line was taking so long to move with all these choices!  Eventually, we got our tickets and were on our way.

It turns out that Fork & Screen Dine-In Movies are awesome!  We are really lucky, because there are only TEN theaters in the country that offer this awesomeness, and one is right by us!

The seats were really nice and spacious, and there were little tables on each one that folded out.  There was a server call light at each seat, and the menu looked yummy.  We opted for dessert, since we had already eaten dinner, and the server came right to our seats and took our order.  Then the food was delivered.  It was very much like a regular dining-out experience, except you had to push the button to get your server to come to you, and you could call at any time during the movie.

Included on the menu was popcorn.  $8 for popcorn with free refills, and the servers would bring them to you!  I know my Dad is going to be checking this out soon.

The bottles of wine were overpriced, though.  Expect to pay $40 a bottle for house wine.  But it's novel, so that's probably why.

And with all the great movies coming out this holiday season, I see Kevin and I going to the dine-in theater more often.  Like for Twilight: Breaking Dawn: Part II.  The Silver Linings Playbook.  Skyfall.  I'm probably missing some others, because I know there are a bunch.

My Date

P.S.  We saw Looper.  And it was fabulous.  Bruce Willis is amazing.  Joseph Gordon-Levitt is great, and he really nailed his Bruce Willis impersonations.  And the story line was advanced enough that Kevin didn't figure out the ending before it happened.  Great movie!
