(The green is less minty in real life. It must have been the flash.)
I really like the way that they turned out, and I was showing them off to everyone in my family last night. When I asked Connor if he liked them, he responded that he did. Then he said,
"It's unfortunate that boys are stuck with pink nails."
It took me a minute to realize what he was saying, but what I believe he meant was that since I was a girl, I was able to paint my nails green, which is clearly an acceptable boy color. But since he was a boy, and didn't paint his nails at all, his were pink (flesh-colored), which is (in his opinion) a girl color.
I asked him what color he wanted his nails to be, and he said black. Then he asked if he could paint his nails black. And while I know that manicures for men are more popular now than they ever have been, and that more guys wear colored polish than ever, and I want him to be sensitive of other people's nail polish choices, I am not sure that I am ready for my five year-old boy to start wearing black nail polish.
Plus, as soon as he asked to have his nails painted black, Lex wanted his to be painted black, too. And I am definitely not qualified to be painting all of their nails. I mean, that is why I have someone else paint mine.
So I just told him that we didn't have any black polish. Which is true. And now I'm just hoping that he doesn't ask again for a long long time.
