Go Seahawks!

Connor says it was the best day of his life.

His favorite team, the Seattle Seahawks, won the Superbowl last night!  And we had a party!  And he won the family brackets and the $75 prize!

I still remember with perfect clarity when the Steelers lost a final round playoff game when Connor was 4 years old.  He cried and cried because they weren't going to the Superbowl.  He took it so personally that he found another favorite team:  the Seahawks. He cheered them on for two seasons, and they didn't let him down this year.  I'm glad for that.  I didn't want to see him heartbroken again.

We had a Superbowl party at the house, for which Connor asked me to make a cake.  Chocolate.  With chocolate frosting.  He is my kid, after all, so that is to be expected.

We had a whole house full of people, and Connor and Lex played so hard with all the kids upstairs.  He was really having a dilemma, because he wanted to watch the game with the grownups and he wanted to play with his friends.  He kept running back and forth all night between the game downstairs and the fun upstairs.

Here he is at the end of the night, with his winning brackets.  This football target game was hung up for the party.  I haven't taken it down yet, because they love playing with it.  See that red mark on his cheek under his eye?  He said that he rolled off his bed and fell on his bottom dresser drawer and then another friend landed on top of him during a game.  But he was having so much fun that it didn't matter.  Boys.

We bought a new board game in honor of the Superbowl to play at the party.  It's Connor's new favorite game.  It's a dice game, similar to Risk or Axis & Allies, but instead of taking over countries or positions on a map, you are battling for positions on the field.  The game is totally customizable with all 32 NFL teams.

Since there isn't any more football for a while, we'll be playing this game a bunch, I suspect.  Also, he's got the Superbowl game on the DVR, and he's already protected it so that it won't be accidentally erased.  I have a feeling that we are going to be watching that often, too.
