In Which Tik Gets Really Sick

Poor little puppy.  A sick little pup is a very sad thing.

Tik has been very sick this week, but the good news is that he is finally on the mend!  Connor and Lex were really worried about him.

We took him to the vet on Tuesday(? What day is it again?) because he wasn't eating or drinking, and he had been having diarrhea practically every hour for a few days. He had a fever, and he was severely dehydrated.

Since puppies don't have time to stay hooked up to an IV to get fluids, what with their busy schedules of sniffing around and chewing on things, he just got all the fluids he needed injected under his skin all at one time.  He looked like a camel with a hump for a few hours, until his body absorbed it all.

He also got some shots of antibiotics and anti-nausea medication at the vet.  He didn't start improving right away - he vomited again as soon as we walked into the door when we got home - but after sleeping for the rest of that day, he did finally start to get better.

He's still got several days worth of pills to take (antibiotics, anti-nausea, probiotics), but he is starting to act more normally.  He's not a real big fan of the special food the vet sent home for him, though, and he doesn't like the Pedialite that he is supposed to drink, either.

It seems he had some sort of dog flu, if that is even a thing?  I dunno.  When we got a dog, I really never expected him to get sick in a way that seems so much human.

P.S.  He weighed in at 14 pounds.

Now that the mental fog caused by lack of sleep from taking care of a sick puppy all night long for two nights in a row has cleared, I'm pretty sure he caught the bug while he was at Petsmart on Saturday in the grooming salon.
