First, we decided to check out the Pokken tournament. Pokken is a Pokemon battle game played on the Wii-U gaming system. Since we sold our Wii-U before Pokken was released, the kids had never played it before.
There were 4 tables set up for free play and drop-in tournaments, so the kids were able to participate even though they weren't entered into the actual Pokken competition.
We also got to watch a little bit of the final matches on a giant screen in the front of the hall. I'm still not sure how I feel about video games as a spectator sport, and the boys were more interested in playing themselves than they were in watching the final matches.
We also visited some of the vendor halls. We visited Troll & Toad, which is Connor's favorite place to buy cards online. I particularly liked the official Pokemon Center vendor hall, which was selling all sorts of Nationals memorabilia, as well as tons of Pokemon plushies.
Lex loves the Pokemon plush. He actually picked out two. (Grandpa is an enabler, supplying his plushie habit.) He is holding a Sleeping Mew in his shirt in the photo above. He walks around with Sleeping Mew tucked inside his shirt all the time now.
Connor used some of his birthday money and bought himself a sealed box of 36 booster packs from the XY Fates Collide release. That's 360 new Pokemon cards, plus code cards for 360 cards for the Online Trading Card Game.
While back in our hotel room, Connor got to work quickly opening all of his new cards. He really enjoyed opening so many all at once.
While Connor was busy with his new cards, Lex was making sure that his new plush friends were comfortable.
Gotta Catch 'Em All!
