Chickens

Sometimes the stars align perfectly.  Today was the final day of Lex's science unit concerning life cycles, and one of their friends invited us to their home to see their chickens because they were having new ones hatch right then.  I couldn't have planned something so well coordinated if I had tried.

And so the boys got to hold freshly-hatched baby quail, which were teeny tiny, and some freshly-hatched baby chicks.

Then, we went outside and saw all the bigger chickens and ducks and quail.

My favorite chicken was in that last video.  She was a golden brown and black Polish hen with a fluff of black feathers on her head that made her look like a muppet.

Lex helped gather all the eggs in the chicken coop, and we brought home two dozen eggs!  He asked me to hard boil some for him to eat, because that is his favorite way to have eggs.
